Detroit Free Press Marathon

With the new year coming up, and registration opening early, the Detroit Free Press Marathon was in dire need of a newly designed website. They had since out grown their old website and was finding it difficult to update regularly. I decided to use WordPress to allow the Marathon group to update every single part of the site, without having to worry about breaking the entire site completely. I created a custom theme using custom post types, custom meta boxes, a handful of plugins and finally created a site they could easily update. The deadline for this site was about three weeks, from wireframe concept to a fully functioning WordPress site.

CIS approached me after hearing about my experience with WordPress and needed their site updated with WordPress capabilities. I worked around an existing design of theirs and created a cleaner design they were looking for. My main goal for this site was to have every piece of content editable by their staff. I achieved this using custom post types, custom meta boxes, widgets, and a collection of plugins. They also needed it to be secure, so I bumped up the WordPress security for them. They are very happy with the outcome of the site and have an easy time updating and adding content to the site.

As of right now this site is not available to the public.

For the mobile version of my personal web site I wanted to have different content then that of the full site. I wanted to highlight only a few projects and get a little more familiar with jQuery Mobile.

‘See Cara Run’ is a personal running blog I started to collect my running achievements and failures. This site also serves as a log for all the races I’ve run. I decided to use Tumblr for the CMS for this blog because Tumblr has a social aspect connection with runners that WordPress didn’t have. To get familiar with the Tumblr language I created a custom theme, with custom designs for each post type (image, video, text, etc.).
